Week 5 and 6 Models

Room Model (Paper) 1:10

I made two scaled models of my own room, which is positioned on the 2nd floor of a townhouse. Due to paper's property, the model is structurally unstable but manages to convey a sense of space.

 Room Model (Cardboard) 1:10

This is the cardboard version of the above model, which is a lot sturdier due to its materiality.

Few design concepts on the room

The first concept involves a room decorated with wooden planks to produce a more natural ambiance in the room. One feature is the timber shade outside of the window that effectively blocks out unwanted sunlight.

The second design involves a room imbedded with a polymeric and synthetic material that creates a sense of modernism to the otherwise bland wall. The hexagonal extrusion from the wall also acts as a hidden storage area for clothing and books.

First iteration Model (Paper, Cardboard, and Spaghetti)  1:20

This model features a few new improvements to my existing room.

Firstly, a wedge-shaped extension is replacing the wall with a window, facing the direction of the rising sun and reflecting sunlight into the room. Spaghetti is used to act as steel window frame for the glass panels.

Secondly, I expanded the floor height to include a slanted skylight that will include more sunlight exposure in the room. I also relocated my bed to the small mezzanine produced by extending the floor height. The door under the mezzanine is also replaced by a sliding door to further conserve space.

Thirdly, the wardrobe and shelves in my room will be replaced by the curvilinear drawers attached to the wall, saving more space and help reflect light with a reflective surface.
